GonnyGlass, aka Gonny van Hulst, is a Dutch born artist who describes herself as an ‘Urban Glass and Inventive Mixed Media Artist’, is taking traditional glass-making techniques to new artistic levels and the 21st century. With a fascination for street art culture and its context within the urban environment, she has developed her own distinct style.

GonnyGlass moved to London over a decade ago, Gonny found herself inspired by the random, absurd chaos and diversity of urban life. Finding beauty in urban decay, she set about translating this to her multimedia artworks, focusing on glass, a material that in itself is very much representative of urban life.

Interested in the experimental possibilities of kiln-cast glass and printing on glass, she combines this ancient and versatile medium, using a variety of different processes and other materials, to make work that is dynamic and thought-provoking.

Still very much an emerging artist after graduating only last year with First-Class Honours from the University for the Creative Arts, Gonny has already been shortlisted and commended for several awards and prizes. She exhibits her work both nationally and internationally through galleries, as well as major art fairs and is now affiliated with galleries in London and the Netherlands.

“Like life itself, I find glass demanding. When I push it to its limits, glass can be extremely challenging to work with. It is this struggle to control its technical complexity, its contradictory qualities, and sometimes unpredictability that I am strongly drawn to.” [GonnyGlass]
